Jacob Have I Loved

Jacob Have I Loved, by Katherine Paterson, takes place on Rass Island over a period of seven years. Rass is a small, little known island off the Chesapeake Bay, and about two-thirds of the island is covered in windy salt marsh full of cordgrass that hides tin, glass and other sharp things. Cordgrass alone can rip your skin so imagine how deadly it is with harmful stuff hidden in it. On Rass everybody makes money either by teaching or fishing for oysters, eeling or crabbing every day except Sunday.

Jacob Have I Loved is about the life of teenage girl Sara Louise Bradshaw. Louise has lived in her sister Caroline's shadow since the minute Caroline was born. After only a few minutes of attention, Caroline was born and all the attention was drawn to her from Louise. All Louise wants is to get out of Caroline's shadow and find something she is better at than Caroline.

Read 2012

Having children of my own, I understand the fear of giving your little people's information to a stranger, even if it is for something educational. Just to clarify, Book-Attic doesn't need anything other than an email address, a first name and a grade level from each child. With what information we have, we will generate a screen name to track points throughout the summer. The email provided will not be bombarded with emails from Book-Attic, either.

If your child chooses to enter a review to be published on the site for two extra points, or a video for one point, I will simpy add a first name (or a screen name if you prefer) and age to the review. Even the gift card will be sent via email without any other information. Please don't hesitate to join Challenge 2012 for privacy reasons. Book-Attic respects each and every families privacy.

Thank you for taking interest in Book-Attic! I hope to receive many enrollment emails! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email read2012@book-attic.com

I would also like to extend a special thanks to JoVoli Clark and all the Lawrence Virtual School staff that has helped Makenzie and Book-Attic
reach more children and families. We truly appreciate everything anyone has done to help!!

Peter Pan

Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie is about Wendy Darling and Peter Pan and their adventures in Never Land. In the Mermaid Lagoon, Peter rescues Tiger Lilly by impersonating Captain Hook and telling Smee and other Pirates to undo her bonds and let her go. Because Peter helped Tiger Lilly, the redskins treat Peter as a Lord and protect the underground house by night.
If you like Disney's classic Peter Pan animation, you would love Barrie's Peter Pan because it has many more adventures and the ending leaves much more open to the imagination. But we won't give away the ending, you must read it to find out!

 Characters

  • Peter Pan: chief of the lost boys and main character
  • Wendy Darling: pretend mother to the lost boys and second protagonist
  • Captain Hook: captain of the pirate ship the Jolly Roger
  • Micheal: Wendy's brother whom she pretends is her baby
  • John: Wendy's second brother
  • Smee: second in charge on the Jolly Roger
  • Tinker Bell: Peter Pan's fairy
